As you can see, the babies are growing like weeds. All of them are halter broke and most have had a few bumps and cuts since birth. We've had 5 healthy babies. 3 stud colts and 2 fillies. We've decided to keep one of the fillies and one of the stud colts. The other 3 have now been posted for sale. I am so impressed with these foals and am looking forward to next years crop. We bred 4 mares back to Tonka this year. Since my last blog we've added another bay roan mare to the herd and are now up to 16 horses.
We've been incredibly busy traveling to rodeos, riding the young horses and getting the hay crops in (with help from my family). The beef cattle are all doing well and we will be selling 9 head this fall, we are keeping 6 head to grow the herd and replace some of the older cows.
We had a tornado come through the area earlier this summer. We were lucky that we only lost 3 trees on our driveway. Many of our neighbors are still doing clean up from the storm. There was no loss of life from the storm, so we all consider ourselves very blessed. Other than that, we've had some really great weather this summer.
We also had the sad loss of my beloved dog Pepper. She was with me for 16 years and it has been quite an adjustment without her here to greet me when I get home from work. We still have two dogs that keep us busy and awake on stormy nights.
We look forward to the coming fall season and getting our last crop of hay in.
I hope you'll look through the horses that we have for sale and consider A&M Ranch for your next equine purchase. It's going to be tough to say good-bye to any of them, but I realize we can't keep them all. We can't bring them all to their full potential and I'm hoping to see them go to homes that will do just that.
Below are some of the pictures from this summer. I hope you'll enjoy scrolling through them. It's amazing the color transformations on some of these guys.
