I haven't been taking time to do much posting lately, life has been pretty hectic around here.
The foals are getting bigger every day. I got 3 of the 4 registered with the AQHA today. The youngest one is still changing colors, so I'm holding off on registering her for a little bit yet. I debated on doing the DNA and 5-panel testing for the three I registered today but decided against it. It would add $105 to the cost and would be a waste of $ if they are never used for breeding. Now we need to decide if we want to sign Hancock Silver Tonka up with the incentive fund for next year's breeding's.
We have been doing more work with the 4 and 5 year old's. Mitch has been spending a fair amount of time with Lady, the 5 year old. I've been splitting my time with the two 4-year old's. Snippit has really become a nice horse to ride. He gets mad when he's not the one being ridden. He has such a willing personality I'm not looking forward to selling him. Faith has now been off the farm for a ride this year. It was a busy day out at Governor Dodge when I took her. The first bridge was a little exciting, but after that she did really well. I'm still hoping to get a camping trip in this year, but we will have to see. It's time to start thinking about weaning the foals, which means we need to be home to keep an eye on things.
We worked cattle and got the calves green tagged so we can sell them later this fall. I'm hoping the market comes back up a bit from where it is before we sell.
We have a nice bunch of calves that will be going to market. Our last one was born about 2 weeks ago, so he'll be staying until later December or January. We are looking forward to having the cows bred closer together so we aren't calving from February through September next year. The bulls were turned out in July, so that means we wont have any coming until April. It looks like we will have a few coming in July at this point. Hopefully those will be the latest ones.
I hope you had an enjoyable summer as we did here. It was too short as always, but I love the fall season. Get out and enjoy the weather before snow flies!
