3 days ago our high was zero. The only remaining effect from the cold is that our Nelson waterer has frozen up with ice. I believe the hose came off and the water ran into the base, filling it and freezing. We are hoping to have it back up and running by the end of the weekend. The cattle and horses all came through in fine shape. We did decide to bring Tonka & Dixie in for the one day and night. The wind was coming from a direction that they didn't have any protection from. They were happy in the barn with the calves that were still being weaned.
After the cold spell broke on Wednesday we put the calves back out in the pasture with the cows and cleaned out the barn as best we could. The horse stalls are back up and we are looking forward to bringing them in for some grain and loving this weekend. They've been accumulating burrs that need to be cleaned out of their manes & tails.
Thursday I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee. I tore my PCL in June and shifted some of the already damaged cartilage in my knee. Mitch is taking care of the chores until I can get back out there safely. Given the rain and ice that is coming down tonight it looks like he'll be handling that for a few more days. I'm hoping to be back in the saddle by the end of the month.
I'm signing off for the evening, thanks for reading!
